Tourist

Installation of gouache/ink on watercolour paper, Reykjavik, 2024.

Heads bobbing in a thermal pool or passport photos clustering together relate to the experience of being a tourist in Iceland. This drawing installation, created during a residency in Iceland, aimed to bring together the gestures of both tourists and artists to undermine the spontaneity and expressions of individuality in both. Through the repetition and emergent pattern formation on the large concrete wall, the gestures become part of a larger, uniform whole.
