Murmuration

Performance, 14 minutes, Formal gardens at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham, 2021.

A choreographed performance piece featuring 8 performers in identical white sporting uniforms. Filing out of the Old Royal Hospital, now the site of the Irish Museum of Modern Art they silently infiltrated the formal gardens. They broke into three formations before regrouping and exiting the public space in unison. The performance explored themes of control and order through the use of uniform and controlled movements. These props and gestures were selected to amplify the tension between the desire to conform to societal norms and expressing personal autonomy. Taking place in a public space these dynamics of imitation and self expression were looked at in relation to a public.
